Undernutrition is a barrier to individual well-being and prosperity, and undermines sustainable development. Half of undernutrition is associated with unsafe water, inadequate sanitation and poor hygiene. For too long, this link has been neglected and the water, sanitation, hygiene (WASH) and nutrition sectors have worked largely in silos. Improved coordination, integration and joint action across policies, plans and programmes are needed.
This session will focus on the significant efforts already undertaken by both sectors. It will present a new WaterAid/SHARE Consortium advocacy tool that analyses WASH integration in national nutrition action plans. It will also present the Action Contre La Faim/UNICEF/ECHO operational manual that presents activities and tools to achieve nutrition security through WASH programming.
