If managed responsibly, global business can be a powerful force to solve a number of development issues. However, with the complexity and scale of global value chains, understanding and managing the impact of multinational companies on development is far from straightforward. GLOBAL VALUE, together with three multinational companies operating in developing countries, tested 15 leading tools for tackling this task. The project lab will discuss how different tools can help business tackle the challenges in each step of managing impact. What are the benefits and limitations of standardised versus customised approaches to business impact measurement and management, and how can different approaches be combined for effective management of business impacts on development?
