High fertility rates and low development are a struggle for many countries. This session will address what is needed for a demographic transition that enables them to reach their full economic potential. It will demonstrate how access to family planning and empowering young people are indispensable for realizing this potential by creating a demographic dividend. No country over the last 50 years has emerged from poverty without expanding access to family planning. Speakers will underscore why investments in sexual and reproductive health and rights, education, gender equality, and subsequent economic policies, are needed to open and take advantage of this window of opportunity. They will also discuss the role decision-makers and other actors, including the private sector, can play.
