Community-Run Entry-Level Access to Renewable Energy in Rural Areas

Increasing access to reliable, modern and sustainable energy for all remains a major challenge for the development sector. According to IEA’s 2014 Africa Energy Outlook, if the current trends continue, over half a billion people will still lack access to electricity in sub-Saharan Africa in 2040. Multistakeholder partnerships must be created to find innovative, effective and lasting solutions to fill this gap in sustainable energy access to off-grid communities. This stand presents an EU-ACP Energy Facility project to provide entry-level access to renewable energies in 24 rural villages in Guinea Bissau.
