EU-Africa Business Forum

The EU-Africa Business Forum, held on 7 June 2017 at the European Development Days (EDD), had ‘investing in job creation’ as its core theme, and provided an unrivalled venue for high-level dialogue and networking. The Forum has become a meeting place for influencers and advocates, as well as leaders looking for a springboard to increase business and investment between Europe and Africa. It has been praised for its high-quality attendance, outstanding preparation and the valuable networking opportunities that it offers.

This one-day event was part of a series of events being organised across Africa and Europe on three key topics, green energy, agri-business and digitalisation. Outcomes from the event will include a business declaration to be presented at the 5th Africa-EU Summit of Heads of State and Government, due to take place on 29-30 November in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, as well as the design of a structured dialogue platform dubbed Sustainable Business for Africa (SB4Africa) and key foreign investment principles such as the European External Investment Plan (EEIP). Special attention will also be given to the creation of youth opportunities.

The event on 7 June featured plenary sessions in the morning, including an opening session and an impressive panel of four participants moderated by a high-level media anchor.

CEOs and high-level stakeholders engaged in lively debate during 3 thematic sessions in the afternoon, moderated by experienced moderators from the media. The sessions and their organisers from the private sector were selected from 25 proposals, and bore testimony to the strong involvement of business in the Forum, auguring well for successful deliberation by the panellists, not only on their specific themes but on major cross-cutting issues as well.
