Given the importance of the EU – Turkey relations on Energy and the sector’s key role in achieving climate objectives and resource efficiency, the EU has allocated considerable financial assistance for this sector under the Instrument for Pre-Accession (IPA) in Turkey. Financial assistance was available also pre-IPA in the years before 2007, but the absorption capacity in that period was still low.
Under IPA II (2014-2020), the EU’s financial assistance for Turkey’s Energy sector amounts at EUR 50 million. Most of that funding aims to promote renewable energy installations and energy efficiency measures. Some of the funding goes to support R&D activities on renewables and energy efficiency in Turkish municipalities and universities.
