Climate X Conflict:Transforming conflict between farmers and herders

Innovations at the intersection of land management, conflict & climate: for human security, food security & sustainable rural development

Climate change and population growth require rethinking the future of rural development and the management of the limited pool of shared resources (land, water) in Africa. Pastoral populations have had to adapt their routes to a changing climate, putting strain on customary approaches to managing resources. In places, relations between herders and farmers have deteriorated into deadly violent conflict. Sustainable solutions to food security and resource management cannot be successful if they are divorced from conflict prevention and consideration of the needs of local communities.
