Education: key to a better future!

Cash for education assistance as an efficient tool for improving access to education for children in emergency settings

After 11 years of conflict, the situation of Syrian refugees in Jordan is more dire than ever. Already before the pandemic, 85% lived below the poverty line – COVID-19 has only made it worse. Families struggle to cover their basic needs. 1/3 of children don’t have access to education, their families simply cannot afford it. Many resort to negative coping mechanisms like child labor & early marriage. COVID-19 also had a negative impact on children’s mental health & their ability to continue their education. Particularly children with disabilities are affected, as virtual teaching often lacks key accessibility features. CARE provides refugee families with cash assistance, enabling them to send their children to school, and provides academic and psychosocial support.
