The COVID pandemic has reconfirmed the close link between human health and healthy ecosystems. Biodiversity loss is a key driver of emerging infectious diseases.  “One Health” approaches provide valuable solutions, by recognizing that human and animal health are interdependent and bound to the health of the ecosystems in which they live.

We need integrated responses to face the short and longer-term challenges of the pandemic. The EU, its Member states and partners are joining forces to help countries to strengthen their healthcare, water and sanitation systems and to support a fast and equitable access to safe, quality, effective and affordable tests, treatments and vaccines against coronavirus. At the same time, they are tackling ecosystems degradation and accelerating efforts to green economies and strengthen resilience.
