The struggle to restore economic growth in a post-pandemic world will also increase the threat of sacrificing the environmental protection in favor of the industrial recovery. An easing of the ecological restrictions may result in nature degradation, acceleration of climate change and deteriorating living conditions for thousands of people.
Intensifying public control over industrial activity and its impact on the environment is a key aspect of an empowered, sustainable, and fairer global governance. People for Nature project was launched in 2019 by WWF-Russia and EU to enable independent local NGOs and activists to contribute to environmental protection. The project offers training and expert support for NGOs and provides a platform for building synergies among actors.
