Efficient water supply in Lebanon: service provision & resource management

MiyahCon: reducing Non-Revenue Water through social communication and accountability between citizens and public institutions.

The water sector in Lebanon faces water scarcity, aging infrastructure and mismanagement of resources. The public Water Establishments are responsible for water supply and should be financially independent and autonomous. However, obtaining revenue from end users is difficult, since they do not trust the provision of reliable service. In some areas, payment coverage is 32%. This reduces the Water Establishments ability to operate and provide quality services, which leads to poor distribution and coverage. Unreliable service is one of the key reasons why individuals choose not to pay fees.
