Tobacco has a significant negative impact on sustainable development and the pursuit of a greener economy. Not only does this include health and poverty, but tobacco consumption and production also lead to deforestation, land degradation, and water contamination. As such, global tobacco control has an important role to play in realizing a greener future. This lab will allow participants to discuss how to best harness its potential and where to focus our efforts.

The lab starts with a brief overview of key issues, including examples of relevant projects in this area. The majority of the session will be devoted to small group discussions organized by areas of interest. Example topics include land, oceans, taxation, and employment.

Please note: the tobacco industry and those representing tobacco industry interests are not invited to this session, in accordance with the Article 5.3 on industry interference of the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC)
