Backing renewable energy at scale to support the Green Deal in Africa

Energy demand is high and increasing in Africa and will be an important enabling factor to power the continent’s economic recovery. This lab debate discusses how we can put the recovery on a green energy path and ensure access to energy for all. It brings together key actors discussing investments in sustainable energy in Africa to promote the Green Deal and to further scaled-up solutions in future. We will hear from Vera Songwe, Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa bringing unique development insights and vision for the continent, Ambroise Fayolle, the Vice-President of the European Investment Bank – the EU’s climate bank, from Merdidiam, a key investor in green energy in Africa, as well as Carla Montesi spearheading the Green Deal and Digital Agenda at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for International Partnerships.
