Ocean resources have vast potential to unlock economic growth, reduce poverty and improve lives, particularly in developing states and for women, youth and Indigenous peoples. Canada is a global leader in building a more sustainable ocean economy, having made oceans a top priority of its 2018 G7 Presidency, co-hosting the 2018 Sustainable Blue Economy Conference in Kenya, and committing to develop a comprehensive blue economy strategy domestically. Canada and the EU collaborate closely on these issues, including via the 2019 Oceans Partnership.

The session will explore how partners can work together to protect coastal communities, support sustainable oceans, fisheries and other maritime sectors, and better align economic and environmental goals to build long-term prosperity.
