Pioneering climate change adaptation in urban Egypt

Participatory alliances for local environmental action in urban settings

Over 20 million people are living in the Greater Cairo Region (GCR); 60% of which are living in informal and underserviced areas. An urgent need for the provision of services and improved environmental conditions remains a critical challenge. The GIZ Urban Development Cluster adopts an integrated participatory, multi-level approach to urban development. This approach ensures the inclusion of stakeholders at national, and local levels for a more impactful and sustainable implementation. During the ten years of implementation, PDP was able to draft a blueprint for best practices towards sustainable urban governance.
