Bhutan has achieved astonishing results in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), especially in the Education Sector, also thanks to DG ECHO support since 2011. Bhutan is an excellent example of the possibility of achieving sustainable results with limited funds if there is an adequate level of governance and ownership. For Education, Disaster Management and Contingency Plans have been prepared at all levels, producing training manuals and interactive teaching and learning materials for school safety. DRR has not only been included in the new Teacher Curriculum but also among indicators for teachers’ evaluation. Bhutan is aiming to have full inclusiveness in the disaster preparedness for vulnerable and disabled children, through an individualized evacuation plans per such students.
