With the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development national statistical production is under close scrutiny. This attracts global interest to the numbers that measure our lives and well-being. Speakers will call on development practitioners’ views. They will present the new challenges they face and the reasons behind the growing demand for statistics. How to provide statistical information for the adoption of sound policies? How to increase trust in statistics and their independence in a paradox situation where production is lacking support from governments? This session is for those interested by the challenges met by statisticians and users of statistical information. A candid debate will call for a more effective approach to development cooperation and for increased attention to statistics.
