Social Discrimination and Access to Health Care

The experience of Damien Foundation in the marginalized community of Musahars, in Bihar, India

Damien Foundation (DF) is a medical NGO that fights leprosy, tuberculosis and poverty-related diseases. “A world without leprosy and tuberculosis” is our mission. But the road is paved with obstacles, including two key challenges: Patient delay, when patients do not seek help in time, due to lack of knowledge, inaccessibility of health facilities, lack of financial resources; and Medical delay, when correct diagnosis is not made or treatment comes too late. DF tackles these obstacles, ensuring access to health services and addressing inequalities that jeopardize health and quality of life.
