Vytautas Landsbergis is a Lithuanian conservative politician and a member of the European Parliament who has been active in Lithuanian politics for some two decades. A co-founder, in the 1980s, of the Lithuanian independence movement Sąjūdis, he became Lithuania’s first post-independence head of state and he has also served as the head, or speaker, of the Seimas, Lithuania’s parliament.
Landsbergis is a prominent intellectual who has written twenty books on a variety of topics, including a biography of the Lithuanian painter and composer Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, as well as titles on politics and music.
