News

This year’s edition of the European Development Days (EDD) will take place in Brussels, Belgium on 16-17 October and will be complemented by an interesting and diverse programme of side-events. One such event is Global Local Forum’s seminar entitled ‘The Territorial Approach: Food Safety, and Food Sovereignty.’

On the initiative of Global Local Forum in Brussels and in conjunction with the European Development Days (EDD), this EDD12 side event comes in the wake of a similar event on the theme of food security which took place in Paris on April 17 2012 and ahead of another scheduled to be held in Dakar, Senegal within the framework of the Africités conference in December 2012.

The seminar will take place in the Representation of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia from 9am until 10:30am (all are welcome from 8:30am) with the cooperation of the various European institutions concerned, and with the participation of Global Local Forum President, Abdoulaye Sene

This seminar will be based on the work of international experts and practitioners specialising in the territorial policies of the North and the South, the contributions of whom were collected in the second publication of Global Local Forum’s annual review. These actors will discuss, share their experiences, and put forward proposals to take up the challenge of food security, identified as a UN Millennium Development Goal (MDG).

Created inDakarin 2008, Global Local Forum is an international ‘laboratory of ideas’ which aims to contribute to mutual development between territories, reflect and stimulating innovative forms of cooperation, as well as re-aligning the economy to serve the people in the dialogue between territories. It gathers members from 32 countries on all the continents that look beyond their ideological convictions, their beliefs, and their own limits, to generate collaborative diagnoses on the key-role of territories as crucibles of human progress and sustainable economic development. This work takes place against the backdrop of aspirations for fairer a distribution of global public goods, and a new more dynamic strategy in the field – one closer to everyday realities and to the well-being of the majority of the world’s population.
