With many participants making long journeys and the equipment infrastructure required, meetings of this type generate around 10 000 metric tonnes of CO2. The cost of offsetting these emissions is estimated at around EUR 200 000.
It would be irresponsible to organise a meeting to address the world’s development challenges without considering its impact on the environment, especially as global warming could cancel out any progress made so far towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals.
Exhibitors and organisers of events are therefore asked to make a contribution to a carbon-offset scheme of their choice (see links at the bottom of the page), in the following amounts:
|
Carbon offset |
Event type* |
|
€ 3 000 (exc. VAT) |
High Level Panel |
|
€ 1 000 (exc. VAT) |
Project or Report Lab |
*descriptions of event types can be found by downloading an Event Submission Form
Proof of this contribution should be provided at the time of online registration.
Please note that emissions generated in Belgium can be offset anywhere in the world. Since energy-saving projects can have a positive social impact, the EDD organisers recommend buying carbon offsets from organisations funding projects in partner countries.
You may use this list of initiatives for ideas, but feel free to find other solutions.
